Leonardo DiCaprio has transformed from a teen heartthrob in Titanic to one of the most talented and prolific actors working in the business today. He’s worked with some of the greatest filmmakers ever and starred in some of the biggest movies of all-time, but his journey was almost cut short back in 2006 when the Oscar nominated actor was nearly killed by a great white shark.\
The Wolf of Wall Street star made an appearance on Ellen this week where he recounted the experience before a horrified Ellen Degeneres.
“I went scuba diving looking for sharks, I had a huge fear of sharks and when I did Blood Diamond in 2006, I actually got stuck in a cage with a great white”, DiCaprio explained. “It was a gigantic great white. It was in a cage with me.”
He continued to say that the shark was going after a Tuna and instead almost got him a piece of DiCaprio instead.
“The great white leapt out and tried to bite it and went into the cage with me, half of its body was in and out”, he explained. “I flattened out at the bottom. And it was this far away, and it chomped a few times but I survived it.”
Thankfully, DiCaprio made it out alive, as had he died then we would have been robbed of his talent far too early on in his career. He still can’t die, as the actor has yet to win an Oscar for his acting talents, something he is looking to change with his role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.
